LP Covers of Old

This evening, whilst training in my garage, my CD compilation played Paul McCartney & Wings' 'Band on the Run' and it got me thinking of the album cover, which in turn caused me to think about other LP covers my brother had in his LP collection that I used to gawp at as a kid and marvel.






So I thought I'd share some of my favourite LP covers with you, this first being Paul McCartney & Wings.

I think what draws me to this particular cover are the number of famous people involved, the two that stick out most for me being James Coburn and, the ever brilliant, Christopher Lee.

Next are two covers from the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer, otherwise known as 'ELP'. I include two, one being a brilliantly creepy cover by none other than H. R. Giger of 'Alien' design fame (the Alien link will take you to another site highlighting Giger's design and the awards won for it).

This cover is for the album, 'Brain Salad Surgery,' (1973 - I was 9 at the time) and had me creeped out but curious at the same time. The cover comprised of two flaps which formed the skull aspect, leaving an opening to show the female's mouth. Upon opening you get to see the full face of the female intact - I always thought she was rather beautiful.

The second of ELP's covers is from an album entitled 'Tarkus' (1971). The album cover opens up to show the various encounters and battles 'Tarkus' has, culminating in its death, which I found to be very sad. For some reason,as a kid it gave me the impression the poor beast was lonely and died alone. But that's a kid mentality for you.
